Food: Fake peanut butter cups

I like Reeses peanut butter cups, despite having never tried peanut butter in any other context and having no real inclination to do so; however as Reeses are not exactly healthy or cheap they are a rare treat

Wandering in the foreign food section of my local supermarket I found the Chocolate Buddy knockoff version – they are slightly cheaper than Reeses and I figured they couldn’t be awful

I was wrong, they are nasty in both taste and texture, like wash it out with mouthwash nasty

Now I really don’t want to try peanut butter

Food: Cadbury Snow Balls

It’s been mildly interesting to see how much left over Christmas confectionary is still languishing in the shop, slightly discounted but still largely overpriced

I was happy to accidentally find Cadbury Snow Balls discounted enough to make trying them seem amusing; they are little balls of chocolate which you hit with a small plastic spoon to decapitate and then eat the white sugary filling

The chocolate is the standard new Cadburys style, which is a lot less nice than the older recipes, the white filling is very sweet and the highlight was probably the spoon!

Although I only noticed the small instruction to “wash spoon before use” when it was too late, oops…

Food: Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin CheeseCake Cookies

Despite liking Halloween I tend to avoid pumpkin flavoured confectionary as it tends to smell awful and taste similarly bad.

However on a highly iffy day at work a coworker offered me a Pepperidge Farm Pumpkin Cheesecake Cookie and I figured that it couldn’t make the day any worse

For a product that claims to be naturally flavoured it tasted pretty darn unnatural, however to be fair it didn’t deteriorate the quality of the already bad day despite smelling disgusting, tasting grim and leaving behind a nasty over-spiced aftertaste

Food: Charcoal Pizza

Charcoal infused food is not a new trend and charcoal pizza was available from Waitrose as of last summer; however I hadn’t seen it reduced until now!

Grey coloured pizza with random toppings, aka Waitrose 1 Antipasti Charcoal Sourdough Pizza was far more enticing to buy when marked down for a quick sale – full price is £4.89 for 345 gr

The charcoal sourdough base tasted like slightly crunchy pizza base, which is a good start!

The toppings seemed a bit busy; salami, porchetta, artichokes, olives, mozzarella and red pepper all fought for attention and perhaps less range (and greater quantities!) would have lead to a more satisfying end result

However it was nice enough that I’d probably buy a reduced price one again

Food: Mars Brownie

Mars bars are nice in extreme moderation, brownie can be nice, yet a Mars bar with chunks of brownie in sounds distinctly suspect

Happily heavy reductions can inspire me to try most things, in this case a slightly overly sweet and yet dry Mars bar

It was edible because it was chocolate derived, however either a brownie or a Mars bar would have been infinitely preferable

Food: Vegetable Yoghurt!?

I’ve been half meaning to try vegetable yoghurt since I noticed them over the summer, however I didn’t want to pay full price for something that might be grim, happily I found one reduced this week

An Apple, Carrot, Beetroot and Ginger one to be precise – it was ok and tasted a bit like a weak strawberry

Happily it also has a lot of vitamin D in it – perfect for rubbish dark wet winter days

However I totally don’t want to try the Pineapple and Butternut Squash flavour – even if it is reduced!

Food: Marks and Spencer Florentines

A colleague randomly gives me a small gift at Christmas – it’s suspected they are unwanted gifts that she’s disposing of. However it’s a nice gesture, in particular as each year I totally forget to even remember this happens so never have anything for her!

This year’s gift was a packet of Marks and Spencer’s milk chocolate, pecan and salted caramel Florentines, they are very chewy and nasty: I can quite see why I will forget this gift!

Food: Waitrose Christmas Sausage Rolls

Something was clearly unusual about my childhood (ok maybe several things) and it’s resulted in both my sibling and I having a rather too excited reaction to reduced price food

This has resulted in the trying to many strange things over the years and the most recent one was Waitrose 1 branded Christmas sausage rolls

christmas sausage rolls

A full price of £2.99 gets you four smallish sausage rolls – two pork with smoked bacon & prune and two pork with turkey and stuffing.

The turkey ones are ok – although the falvour could basdically have been anything as far as the taste went

The prune ones were gross, really sweet and sticky – not nice at all

As only half of them were nice it’s just as well that I only paid half price

Food: Star Wars Pasta Shapes

There is something simultaneously fun and horrifying about the tie-in items that accompany film releases.

Porgs are probably going to be unmissable in coming weeks as the new Star Wars film approaches, however I was relieved to see that they didn’t feature in the Heinz Star Wars Pasta Shapes that I found in the shops this week

Thank goodness that Disney are unlikely to go down the same path as KISS, making Porg condoms and coffins unlikely – those would be most disturbing

Food: Chupa Chups Spooky Jelly Candy Pizza

Due to the wonder of the Yumpkin I felt that it was only far to find something curious for my spouse

Happily I stumbed accross the Chupa Chups Spooky Jelly Candy Pizza, which looks most curious indeed – and was half price, which is my favourite type of curious

I am not sure how tasty it will be, however it looks just frightful
