Food: Waitrose Clotted Cream and Raspberry Ice Cream

In theory it is getting closer to summer and warm weather. I keep muttering about getting an ice cream maker but have yet to do so (need to do more research), which means I still need to buy ice cream.

I am aware that you don’t *need* an ice cream maker to make your own ice cream but I still have nightmares about my mother’s DIY ice cream made in a food processor, frozen in an old tupperware and filled with ice crystals.

Normally ice cream doesn’t last long in my household and rarely survives two trips out of the freezer, however the Waitrose Seriously Creamy Clotted Cream & Raspberry ice cream is so indifferent and flavourless that it has been picked at a couple of times but it still two-thirds full.

I will not be buying again!

Food: Seed and Bean Coconut and Raspberry chocolate – Desk chocolate

Seed and Bean make odd flavoured chocolate with organic and fair-trade elements where possible.

Naturally Waitrose sell it and once lunchtime I wanted something sweet but in a dark chocolate way so that I would savour it and ration it out over days without feeling cheated.

So the idea of a coconut and raspberry organic dark chocolate bar sounded great. 66% cocoa in a 85gr bar at a mildly reduced price from RRP.

The coconut oil is 2% and the raspberries are 4%, so I was expecting a mild flavour with nice chocolate. What I got was a greasy yet gritty chocolate with what tasted like faux-berry flavour.

It lasted in my desk drawer for almost two months, when I got really desperate I would have a piece. It may have been organic and fair-trade and  all these god things, but it tasted horrid and that is more important than any green or humanitarian credentials!

Food: Godiva raspberry filled chocolate – with added Japanese confusion

My sibling kindly brought me a Godiva chocolate bar back from Japan – it was raspberry flavour. The packaging was in English with a Japan language sticker over the ingredients, which was a little weird.

Having not tried Godvia chocolate before I wasn’t too sure what to expect but I was excited about it being dark chocolate as I’m trying to be good and only eat stuff with high cocoa content as that way I can pretend it has some health benefits!

I then got a little confused as I couldn’t easily see how much cocoa the bar contained – this may have been due to the Japanese sticker placement.

However I am very sure that there was next to no raspberry in it despite the claim that it is “filled with raspberry”. There was a very mild flavour to suggest that there had been some sort of red fruit waved vaguely in the direction of the chocolate and that was it!

The chocolate itself was pretty nice although it didn’t seem to have a high a cocoa content as I’d prefer, but I’d have felt cheated if I’d had my heart set on raspberry!
